Premiere of the documentary „America the Beautiful“and public debate with Mrs.C.Costin in Europe Cinema (Varšavka 3, Zagreb) (free entrance)
America the Beautiful is a strong movie about the influence of fashion, beauty and diet industries on contemporary perception of female body. Shortened version of awarded documentary film „America the Beautiful“C.Costin uses as a part of her educative lectures in USA. This version is adapted to adolescent population and it focuses on socio-cultural context of eating disorders.
In the movie, Mrs.C.Costin explains her views about media influence on the onset and development of eating disorders. Eating disorders are not caused by the media, but media glorification of thinness and unrealistic „perfection“of female body do create favorable conditions for development of eating disorders. Mrs.Costin thinks that the media in Western culture transmit the message that it is more important how you look than who you are, that could have damaging influence on body-image-development of young girls.
